Our Story
The first Waterfowl Weekend was held back in October of 2007. The small group started planning in August, and the initial show was just a two day event, with only 6 vendors, a very small calling competition and one of the first Ducks Unlimited Waterfowl Hunters Parties held at the After that first year, Karisch and Morgan partnered, knowing that the show could be bigger and better and have even more things for people to do. They began planning the 2nd annual event. Just seven months later, the show came about and had definitely grown to a large scale event. It was now a three day event, host to the World’s Largest Waterfowl Calling Event with 23 different contests; around 30 different vendors and exhibitors in the hunting and fishing arenas; and a large Ducks Unlimited Sportsman’s Night Out party. Again it was held at the Since then the event continues to grow and more things join the weekend festivities. In 2009, the venue changed and moved to the With the new venue for the 2010 event at the Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas, the Waterfowl Weekend is quickly developing into what organizers hope will continue to be a great yearly event for all sportsmen, women and children to come out and enjoy.
In 2007, the Waterfowl Weekend was a simple thought that originated from Britton Karisch, avid outdoorsman and local guide in the Katy area. He wanted to develop a show that was fun for the whole family, an event for all to enjoy like the ones he attended as a child. He also wanted to have a calling contest that he and friends thought would have more events to participate in around the area. The idea was well received and started to become a reality including the help of another friend and local Ducks Unlimited Area Chairman, Marissa Chávez Morgan.
